Kyle Cameron issued our response, getting up to meet Ruben Rodrigues’ corner but failing to beat Ashmore with his header. Four minutes later, Langstaff’s left-footed effort from the edge of the area took a nick off a defender on its way narrowly wide of the post. But it was the visitors who ended the half the more threatening side and, after Femi Ilesanmi had cut into our area before blazing a shot over, they had the lead. It came after Aden Baldwin’s attempted clearance down the channel was blocked, allowing our opponents to work the ball into the box and force an outstanding save from Sam Slocombe.
The rebound fell to Broadbent, however, and he had the simple task of turning the ball home. We were quickly out of the blocks in the second half and, five minutes after the restart, Ashmore made an excellent save to push Adam Chicksen’s shot wide after the ball had bounced up nicely for him in the area. A minute later, Cameron caught a 25-yard effort sweetly but straight at Ashmore, and shortly afterwards Rodrigues did brilliantly to get into the area before picking out Scott in space – only for a defender to make a sprawling block. We kept up our incessant pressure, however, and deservedly levelled on 56 minutes when Bostock curled a teasing ball into the box for Scott to produce an incredible looping header into the far corner. Boreham Wood responded with a Tyrone Marsh free-kick which was pushed away by Slocombe, before Scott came within inches of turning the game on its head with another header – this one kissing the side-netting on its way wide.
Cedwyn Scott continued in his role behind Macaulay Langstaff and the pair linked up brilliantly inside four minutes, the former playing an instinctive through ball for the latter to race through one-on-one with Nathan Ashmore. The ball seemed to get stuck under his feet, however, and his left-footed effort was saved. The visitors fired their first warning shot on 21 minutes when they sprung the offside trap, only for Sam Slocombe to race out of his area to make an excellent sliding challenge before clearing the ball for a throw. Three minutes later, Matt Palmer backed himself into a corner and conceded possession deep in his own half, with George Broadbent almost capitalising with a shot from inside the area which hit the outside of the post and went out for a throw.

The game went a little flat after that, with Rodrigues attempting to spark some life into it with a weaving run into the area which resulted in him catching Ashmore on the stretch and going into the book. That proved to be Rodrigues’ final action as he was replaced by Sam Austin two minutes later, and the attacking midfielder watched on as Will Evans’ header from a corner skimmed the bar before Baldwin had to produce an excellent piece of covering defending after Josh Rees had latched on to a throw over our back line. Kairo Mitchell replaced Scott in our second and final change before four added minutes were signalled, during which Baldwin had a free header from a corner which he couldn’t guide on target.

Notts County vs Boreham Wood on 10 Jan 23 - Match CentreWe were unable to overcome a stubborn Boreham Wood resistance on a frustrating night at Meadow Lane. George Broadbent had sent his side in ahead with a close-range finish, only for Cedwyn Scott to equalise with a brilliant header after the break. But we were unable to find a winner on a frustrating, wet and windy night. Luke Williams made one change to the side that breezed past Aldershot, with John Bostock replacing the bench-bound Jim O’Brien in midfield.
